Our Story
The story of Fricano’s of Alamo begins long before the first pie ever came out of our oven. It starts on a quiet street in Grand Haven, Michigan, in 1949, when Cosimo “Gus” Fricano introduced West Michigan to its very first taste of pizza. What started as a humble tavern with a newfangled dish quickly became a local legend. Gus’s thin-crust, no-nonsense pizzas—crispy, caramelized, and loaded with flavor—won over hearts, one slice at a time. And soon, the Fricano name became synonymous with the gold standard of Michigan pizza.
At Fricano’s of Alamo, we carried that torch forward every day. Nestled just outside Kalamazoo, our location honors the original Grand Haven recipe down to the last detail: same five classic toppings, same fiercely loyal following, and yes—still cut with scissors. We’re proud to serve a pizza that hasn’t changed in over 75 years, not because we’re stuck in the past, but because some traditions are just too good to mess with.
